Products ABC Product Library Instruments for pH and ppb Oxygen in Pure Water This group contains two sections, instruments for ppb level oxygen and instruments for pH measurements on ultra-pure water. PPB levels of oxygen, i.e. a few micrograms oxygen per litre, put high demands on the metering equipment that must measure it. OxyGuard equipment can measure down to less than one microgram per litre. There are at present two main uses for such meters. The first is within the power industry, where boiler and district heating water must be kept nearly oxygen-free to avoid corrosion. The other is in the beverage industry, where some types of product must contain a small but precise quantity of oxygen when produced to ensure the development of the correct flavour during storage. The power industry also uses pH meters to measure on boiler water. Water for this use is ultra-pure, and whereas ordinary tap water conducts electricity, ultra-pure water is a reasonably good insulator. So good an insulator that the very high impedance of a normal pH measurement loop becomes extreme. This is just one of the several difficulties associated with this measurement that has previously caused many engineers to regard it as impossible to perform in practice with any acceptable degree of accuracy.
